Board Members
Every year a new board of directors is voted in to lead the chapter. Our board consists of experienced individuals who are dedicated to leading a growing organization. The 2012/2013 SMPS Research Triangle Chapter Board of Directors are as follows:

Meg Odom is the Business Development Coordinator for RDK Engineers. Meg has been actively involved with SMPS since entering the industry, serving on the Social Planning Committee for the SMPS Southeast Regional Conference in 2009. Meg has previously served the SMPS Triangle Board as Treasurer and President-Elect. She lead the CPSM study group and earned her certification in 2012.

Tracy Russell is Marketing Project Manager for Moffatt & Nichol. Moffatt & Nichol is a leading global infrastructure advisor specializing in the planning and design of facilities that shape our coastlines, harbors and rivers as well as an innovator in the transportation complexities associated with the movement of freight. Tracy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from North Carolina State University. She has worked in the A/E/C field since 2008 and has been an active member of SMPS, serving on the Communications Committee for one year and the Programs Committee for three years. Tracy is currently serving on the Board as President-Elect.

Pat Perkins is the Marketing Coordinator for O’Brien Atkins Associates, one of North Carolina’s premier architectural and engineering design service firms. Pat is responsible for all the firm’s marketing activities including proposals, presentations, marketing communications and collateral as well as providing business development support. In 1998, Pat was named an Associate of the firm. She has been an active member of SMPS since joining, serving at various times as Chapter Director at Large, Programs Committee Member, Program Moderator and Panelist, Public Relations Committee Member and several terms as Chapter Secretary, including her current 2012-2014 term, as well as her current continued service on the Programs Committee.

Lauren Smith is the Marketing Coordinator for Lappas + Havener, a landscape architectural firm specializing in the design of educational, cultural, corporate, healthcare and institutional public spaces. She is responsible for marketing and business development activities for the Durham-based firm. Lauren joined SMPS in 2006 and has since served as Director of Programs, Director at Large, and on the Program Committee and 2008 Southeast Regional Conference Social Planning Committee. In 2010 she earned the Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) designation.

Beth Stout is the Environmental Services Business Development Manager of Froehling & Robertson, Inc. (F&R). F&R is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that provides clients a full range of environmental and geotechnical engineering services and full-service materials testing and special inspections. Beth has previously served the Chapter on the Programming Committee in 2008-2009, as Director at Large in 2009-2010, Programs Chair and Interim President-+Elect in 2010-2011, and President 2011-2012. Beth was also Co-Chair of the On-Site Logistics Committee for the SMPS Southeastern Regional Conference in 2009. Beth earned her CPSM certification in April 2010.

Danielle Davis

Danielle Davis is Marketing Coordinator for SfL+a Architects, P.C. SfL+a provides services in architectural design and planning, construction, land planning and interior design. Danielle holds a Masters in Business Administration from Sage Graduate School and a Bachelors of Liberal Arts in English from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She has worked in the A/E/C field since 2002 and has been an active member of SMPS, serving on the Upstate New York Chapter as Communications Director for seven years and President-Elect for one year.

Kim Fowler, CPSM, LEED Green Associate

Kim Fowler has been an active member of SMPS since 2007. She served on the Communications Committee for the 2010-2011 term and has been the Director of Communications since the fall of 2011. Kim is a Senior Marketing Professional at Falcon Engineering; a multi-disciplined engineering firm here in the Triangle. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Elon University. In 2012, Kim earned her CPSM certification and is also a LEED Green Associate.

Liza Mead

Liza Mead is the Marketing Coordinator of Alpha & Omega Group, a registered SPSF civil & structural engineering firm based on Christian principals, providing trustworthy services on all sizes of bridge, site development, hydraulics and preservation projects. Liza is responsible for developing and implementing the Marketing Strategic Plan for Alpha & Omega Group, holding the first position as Marketing Coordinator. She leads and supports the Marketing and Business Development efforts. Liza holds a Bachelor’s Degree from High Point University and has served the Chapter on the Membership Committee since 2010.

With more than 6 years in the A/E/C industry, Vanessa Manners is the Private Sector Marketing Coordinator for the Southeast Region at Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc.-a full-service engineering, planning, and environmental consulting firm with 60+ offices nationwide. An active member of SMPS, Vanessa is currently serving as Director of Programs.

Glenda Owens Bastress

Glenda Owens Bastress began her A/E/C industry career in Raleigh for Brasfield & Gorrie more than 12 years ago and currently is the Raleigh office Marketing Manager. She also brings more than 25 years of marketing experience in the form of Television Broadcast Promotion as a producer and Advertising Agency work as a media buyer and creative director to SMPS. Glenda served as the co-chair of the SMPS Southeast Regional conference in 2009 and worked on the sponsorship committee three years prior. She has been a member of SMPS for 12 years.

Theresa Leahy

Theresa Leahey has worked with architectural, engineering, interior design and construction firms in the AEC industry for her entire career. Since 2000, she has been the Director of Business Development for the North Carolina office of Affiliated Engineers Inc. AEI is a consulting engineering firm which provides MEP and IT engineering services for R&D, healthcare and institutional clients. Theresa has been a member of SMPS since 1986. She was the founding President of the Pittsburgh Chapter and has served on the Board of Directors for the Research Triangle Chapter. Theresa is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design.
